The rumours were true. After a couple of weeks of speculation, yellowTAB has just issued a statement declaring that they have filed for bankruptcy protection. They give a short explanation of what this means to the company, and the next three months will be critical to the survival of the company, as an agent, assigned by the government, will audit their books and accompany them through this process, trying to find ways out of this situation. They also try to answer some of the questions ZETA users everywhere might have, such as "Will a new version of ZETA be published?" for which the answer is definitely Yes, as ZETA 1.2 (previewed here at ICO) should be out soon. Also, development work on ZETA will continue beyond 1.2 as will yT's collaboration with Haiku. It's never easy for an alternative OS company to compete in a Microsoft dominated monopolistic market, especially a commercial OS company, and yellowTAB has been around for far longer than many expected them to be. These are tough times, let's hope they succeed in staying right where they are. If you've been holding out on buying ZETA, now it's the time to do it.
